Our proposal has been developed on the basis of clinical evidence, research, guidance and local activity data alongside feedback from women, their families and staff working in and with maternity services. It has also been through a thorough options appraisal and engagement process.
As a result of all of this work, we are proposing that we create a network of midwifery care services. Midwives and maternity support workers (previously known as women's support assistants) would work flexibly, providing safe, high quality, personalised care to women closer to home throughout all stages of their pregrancy, birth and beyond. Follow this link to read more about our proposed model.
We will be seeking your views on our proposed model of care through a consultation that will be launched soon.
